2008 Study - "Powering Up the Future"

In recognition of the impending labour shortages that pose a threat to the electricity sector, the Electricity Sector Council commissioned a 2008 Labour Market Information (LMI) Study to better understand which areas and occupations in the industry are currently most under pressure, and the types of pressure that exist. More broadly, the goal of the study was to determine the extent of the labour supply/demand gap. With information from the current findings, the ESC along with industry employers, government, and educators, can take appropriate action to mitigate the effects of the human infrastructure shortages.

The Labour Market Information website makes available data and reports on current employment, workforce statistics and demographics as well as future projections for employment, retirement and the workforce demand/supply gap for organizations in the electricity sector from across Canada.

Thanks to the support and commitment of industry stakeholders, the 2008 Labour Market Information Study represents the most current and accurate workforce data possible and provides a valuable glimpse into future issues and challenges that the electricity sector will be facing.

The 2008 Labour Market Information Study and additional research reports are available on the LMI website and can be viewed by clicking here.

Labour Market Information for the Canadian Solar Industry

In late 2008, the Electricity Sector Council (ESC) in partnership with the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) commissioned a labour force survey of the Canadian solar industry. The purpose of the survey was to identify the main labour force trends and issues in the solar industry over the next three years.
